Acne Facial
Not all acne is the same and not all causes of acne will respond to the same types of treatment. For this reason, I personalize the treatment procedure and the products used individually to best match with the type of acne. This facial includes deep pore cleanse, exfoliation ( Mandelic & Salicylic Peel, Glycolic Peel, or AHA), and a detoxifying astringent mask to calm the skin. Your skin will be treated by products that reduce the surface oil, remove dead skin, hydrate and nourish the cells.
This is one of the most important steps for treating acne, and here is why;
Acne affects most teenagers and about 20-30% of adults and occurs when hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Our sebaceous glands, which are connected to the hair follicles, secrete oil to lubricate our skin. Excess sebum (oil) production and dead skin cells plug the follicle creating a good environment for bacterial growth. The pore then becomes infected with bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and results in inflammation. Face, neck, chest and back are the typical areas of acne appearance due to the high concentration of sebaceous glands.
Extra information :
- What’s the difference between a white head and a black head? A ‘white head’ typically occurs as a result of a plugged pore that caused the follicle head to bulge. A ‘black head’ is a pore full of bacteria and oil, when the oil gets exposed to air it turns brown and thus may appear as dirt.
- What causes acne? hormonal changes, androgens in particularly. The increase in androgens during puberty causes more sebum production however, very low quantities of androgen may also worsen acne. Some hormonal conditions such as PCOS (polycyclic ovarian syndrome) predispose to acne. Stress and lifestyle such as diet habits can trigger acne or worsen it. Carbohydrates and sugar rich foods worsen acne because insulin (which is a hormone secreted to lower blood sugar) also acts on the glands and increases keratin plug formation and sebum production. Certain medications such as androgens or corticosteroid typically worsen acne.
